SEPTIC
SERVICES

A septic system is an onsite wastewater system that processes sewage and releases the effluent back into the groundwater. The type and size of the system required is custom designed according to the size of the property and buildings (number of bathrooms & water usage), soil properties and municipal by-laws.

Clean Shot Environmental Services will perform a site survey which will include a homeowner consultation, soil analysis/ percolation tests. The results of these tests will provide the guidelines for a suitable design which meets the homeowners needs and current regulations.

Clean Shot Environmental Services will design and install the basic conventional system to the state of the art, tertiary system. Clean Shot Environmental Services will work directly with the homeowner/property owner to design and install the most efficient and cost effect system for your needs.

Conventional Septic System

  • Most Common
  • Composed of a Septic Tank and a soil filter or Leaching Bed
  • Septic Tank:
    • Separates liquids from solids
    • Provides some breakdown of organic matter in wastewater. Heavier solids settle on bottom; lighter solids float to surface. Anaerobic bacteria digest some of the organic solids in the tank, Clarified wastewater in the middle flows into the leaching bed
  • Most often uses a 2 compartment septic tank (concrete or plastic)
  • Leaching Bed: Network of perforated plastic distribution pipes laid in gravel trenches over a layer of soil Size, design & layout based upon the volume of sewage generated, the absorptive capacity of the underlying soils and the depth to the high groundwater table. Uses natural processes to treat the wastewater from the septic tank then purified water seeps into the groundwater

Clean Shot Environmental Services installs many different systems:

Tertiary Septic System/ Advanced Treatment System

  • Used on properties where it is impractical to impossible to install a conventional septic system
  • Treats the wastewater to a higher level than a septic tank
  • Permits the treated effluent to be discharged into a much smaller area
  • Uses a aerator to accelerate the time to break down solids
  • Some of the common systems used are Norweco and Waterloo Biofilter

Raised Filter Bed

  • Used in cases where the groundwater table or bedrock is close to the surface
  • Import sand to make mound
  • Sand is efficient at treating the effluents before it enters the shallow soils of the site
